As a nonprofit organization we rely solely on your generous donations, grant money or bequests to operate from day to day and to get most of the supplies we need to care for the thousands of animals we take in each year.

We are so grateful for the generosity of people who donate food, cleaning supplies, litter, money, etc to our facility and we are grateful to all of our volunteers for coming out to the shelter to play with our cats and dogs, and give them the much needed attention that they crave.

If you would like to help our shelter, there are a variety of ways to do that. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns. Click on one of the links below for more information about our programs.

Fundraising Committee - We have active fund raising activities going on year round. Please check our main website or email hssifundraising@gmail.com

PAWS to Recycle Program- Our shelter accepts aluminum cans. We take the cans to a local recycling plant and put the money that we receive from them towards our low cost spay and neuter program. Cans can be brought to the shelter. We also need a volunteer to take these cans to the recycling plant for us.

Petco Volunteer- In cooperation with Petco, HSSI is able to house some cats at the Carbondale Petco to increase their chances of finding a loving home. We rely on volunteers to help make sure the cats have food and water and that their litter boxes are cleaned out.

On Saturdays and Sundays, we like to have at least 2 volunteers to take one or two shelter dogs to Petco and to answer general questions from the public about adoption and the animals we have available.
